How to Choose a Sanding Disc
Start with the attachment your sander uses: hook & loop discs grip a velcro-faced pad and can be swapped and reused, while PSA (self-adhesive) discs stick to a smooth pad and sit dead-flat, which many turners and auto-body shops prefer. Match the disc diameter to your pad, and match the hole pattern to your sander's dust extraction — a mismatched pattern blocks airflow and shortens disc life.
For grit, work in steps rather than jumps: a typical progression is 80 for shaping, 120–150 for smoothing, and 180–220 before finishing.
