Aluminum Oxide Sanding Belts
Aluminum Oxide Sanding Belts
Aluminum oxide is the all-purpose abrasive for belt sanding — tough, self-fracturing so it keeps a fresh cutting edge, and economical enough to run hard. 2Sand stocks aluminum oxide belts in a wide range of widths, lengths, and grits for woodworking, metalworking, and floor sanding, sized to fit most belt and edge sanders.
Open Coat or Closed Coat?
Open coat belts leave space between abrasive grains so soft, resinous woods (pine, fir, cedar) don't clog the belt. Closed coat belts pack the grain tight for a faster cut and smoother scratch pattern on hardwoods and metal.
Picking Grit
Use 36–60 grit for aggressive stock removal and leveling, 80–120 for shaping and smoothing, and 150–220 to prepare for finish. Step through grits without skipping more than one — each pass should remove the scratches of the one before. More detail in our sandpaper grit guide.
