Pad protectors protect the backing pad of your sander which make it last longer. The hook and loop backing grips the sanding discs well and makes it quick and easy to change sanding discs as the project surface gets smoother. If you experience discs shifting when attached to a new pad protector you can try wiping the protector's hooks down with lacquer thinner to remove any oils.
